Author Renata Bowers Visits Eastside Lutheran School

Wisconsin native and '85 graduate of Watertown's Northwestern Prep, Renata Bowers is a children's author who now resides in Connecticut. She's returning to Wisconsin the first week in May 2011 for a book tour, and will visit Eastside Lutheran School on Wedensday, May 4th, as part of that tour.

Renata is the author of Frieda B. Herself, a hardcover full-color children's picture book, created to encourage the reader to "dream your dreams big and believe they can be." She wrote the book to encourage kids of all ages to use their imaginations, and to believe that - just like the key character, Frieda B. - they too, are free to be and do whatever their heart tells them to. When working in a Christian setting, Renata shares the scriptural foundation of the book: That God creates each of us to tell a story with our lives - and that we need to dream big and believe in order to tell it fully.

"The way I look at it, everyone has a story," Renata says. "That's a promise found in Jeremiah 29:11, and it's the truth on which my book quietly rests. That, and Ephesians 3:20, which states that God can do 'immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine' - which tells me we each need to dream big and believe in our stories, and He'll stretch them even further. Each and every child has a unique blending of gifts and talents unlike anyone else in the world. And when a child is encouraged to dream wide and far about how he/she could use those talents to make the world a better, happier place, that life can turn into extraordinary story - the story God intended."

And that's the message Renata will focus on when working with Eastside students. "I love to rub elbows with kids, make them laugh, keep them engaged, and open their eyes and hearts to the truth that each of them is unique, special, and has a story unlike anyone else's - a story that is meant to make a powerful difference in the world around them."

Renata's own personal dream and story? "To help children believe in theirs."

Families are welcomed to sit-in on any of Renata's four morning sessions at Eastside on May 4th, between the hours of 8:30 and 11:15am.
